Important Aquatic Center Safety GuidelinesTo assist in ensuring a safe environment is maintained in all of our pools, we updated our Aquatic Center safety policy in 2020. We use a three-color wristband procedure. Wristbands identify swimmers capability, age, and supervision requirements to ensure all children are adequately supervised and accompanied. Swim tests may be required. We appreciate your cooperation and support.
US Coast Guard-approved floatation devices are allowed in pool area. To verify, please look at the label on the life jacket or ask an aquatics manager for assistance. Supervising adults must be within an arm's reach of all life jacket users in their group. Goggle PolicyEffective January 1, 2025, we no longer allow goggles that have a full-face mask and/or cover your nose, or full-face snorkels. You may use a regular snorkel. See the "Goggle Policy" tab below for more details. | |||

Goggle Policy
To ensure the safety of all pool users and promote clear communication with lifeguards, full-face snorkel masks are not allowed in our pools. Regular snorkels (that do not have a full-face mask) may be used.
Full-face masks pose several safety risks, including:
Impact on Lifeguard and Emergency Response
Full-face snorkel masks can interfere with lifesaving efforts by:
- Making removal difficult: The tight fit of these masks can complicate quick removal during emergencies.
- Obscuring the face: Lifeguards may find it harder to assess a swimmer's distress or detect unconsciousness if the swimmer’s face is covered.
- Spinal injury concerns: Removing the mask during a spinal injury emergency could risk further harm to the swimmer.
- CPR challenges: The mask can obstruct the use of a CPR mask, delaying critical lifesaving measures.
Safety Risks of Full-Face Snorkel Masks
- Increased risk of carbon dioxide buildup: Full-face masks can trap exhaled air, leading to higher carbon dioxide levels in the breathing space. This can cause dizziness, disorientation, or even loss of consciousness.
- Seal and ventilation failures: Proper seals and ventilation are critical for these masks to work safely. If they fail, swimmers may experience panic or difficulty breathing, especially if they are inexperienced.
- Risk of water inhalation: Poorly fitted or malfunctioning masks can trap water inside, increasing the risk of water inhalation or drowning.
- Limited visibility and depth perception: The design of these masks may block peripheral vision and affect depth perception, raising the likelihood of collisions or underwater accidents.
- Emergency challenges: Swimmers unfamiliar with full-face masks may overestimate their abilities or struggle to remove the mask quickly in an emergency.
We enforce this policy to maintain a safe and secure environment for all pool users. See photo below for references on what goggles are allowed in our pools.
