2026 Academy Dates are TBD in Fall 2026 - Check Back for Registration Details
The academy classes are taught by IGH PD Officers and sessions are generally held once a week for six weeks. We ask that you make a commitment to attend each session.
After the successful completion of this program, citizens will be given an opportunity to ride-along with an IGH PD Officer during their shift.
Overview
IGH PD Citizen Academy program is designed to offer citizens an inside look into IGH PD operations. We invite you to participate and learn more about IGH PD, including:
Tour and history of the police department
Functions of patrol, investigations, SWAT, negotiators, physical evidence team, bike patrol, traffic and K-9 units
Review of typical calls for service
DWI demonstration
Traffic stops, normal and felony stops
Officer survival, use of force
Laws of arrest
Searching and handcuffing
