Volunteer Opportunities
Become Police Reserve
One of the greatest gifts you can give is your time. The IGH PD Reserve Unit is made up of local citizens who are dedicated to their community and its safety. They assist the community by providing reliable volunteer personnel to the department.
The reserves are a large part of the “community policing” concept. They often assist with local events, emergencies, natural disasters and special assignments.
Reserves are individuals who have an interest in law enforcement or are pursuing a law enforcement career. They want to give back, and be a part of the community through active service. They help to contribute to the safety and security of our Inver Grove Heights.
Reserve RequirementsWe have 9 simple requirements to be eligible to be an IGH PD Officer.
| TrainingJust like our sworn officers, the reserves train to the highest level possible. Training is required before a reserve officer can participate in assignments or activities. They must complete training in the following areas:

Become an IGH PD Explorer
The IGH PD Explorers are a Boy Scout-based group for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement and have completed 8th grade. The program offers the opportunity to learn about law enforcement through a fun-filled, hands-on approach, promoting growth and development in adolescent youth. IGH PD currently has several officers who participated in a Police Explorer Program when they were young. Explorers meet during October through April and have one joint training per month with other posts. There may be additional events and training throughout the year as well. All of these meetings and training come to a head with the annual Minnesota State Conference in Rochester, MN. At this conference Explorer Units from across the state come together to compete in different law enforcement-related scenarios such as Arrest and Search, Domestics, Burglary Response, Firearms, Traffic Stops, and White Collar Crime among others. Besides training, meetings, and the competition, the Explorers help give back to the community throughout the year in many ways. They assist with events like the Safety Camp, Dakota County Fair, and Inver Grove Heights Days. The IGH PD has three officers serve as advisors. Officers Engstrom, Eid, and Malcolm. |
