SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK
|This year, the week of April 12 - 16 is designated Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. Throughout this week, residents and business should visit the MN Homeland Security and Emergency Management page to explore information on how to stay safe during severe weather.|
The website highlights an important seasonal weather safety topic for each day of the week.
• Monday: Alerts and Warnings
• Tuesday: Severe Weather, Lightning and Hail
• Wednesday: Floods
• Thursday: Tornadoes (Tornado Drill Day is April 15)
• Friday: Extreme Heat
Residents should consider taking the time to talk to family members, including sitters and other visitors, on what to do and where to take shelter in the residence. Businesses need to make sure their employees understand what to do and how to help customers in the event severe weather approaches while they are at work.
Make a severe weather plan before you need one!
Update on August 2017
New Fire Station
Last October, the City purchased land to build a new fire station. The new fire station will be located at 9250 Courthouse Boulevard. In 2010, the City conducted a needs analysis and location study which determined a third fire station was needed to help improve response times to the southern portion of the City and to also assist with the growth in the northwest area. The study also designated a general area where this new station should be located. This new facility will be known as Fire Station #2. The original fire station #2 was shut down in the 1970’s. Current Fire Stations #1 and #3, located at 7015 Clayton Avenue and 2059 Upper 55th Street, respectively will remain operating fire stations. A final design for the new Fire Station #2 has been completed by Five Bugles Design architectural firm in collaboration with a committee made up of fire department members and city staff. The project is expected to break ground this spring.
