The city received the first development proposals in the summer of 2007, including an industrial office / warehouse park, a retail shopping center, and various residential developments. The city has now completed construction of the first phase of the utility infrastructure along Highway 3 from 80th Street to 70th Street.
The design of development in the Northwest area will be significantly different from what the city has previously experienced. The new regulations require more open space, the preservation of high-quality natural resources, and the clustering of housing.
The regulations require that storm water be managed on site with the use of ponds and infiltration and encourages the reduction of impervious cover, such as buildings, roads and parking areas. The city is also encouraging developers to consider affordable housing initiatives in accordance with the city's adopted recommendations from the Housing Task Force.
