Vote Early

Anyone who is eligible to vote can vote early. The City of Inver Grove Heights offers two early voting options:

  1. By Mail 
  2. In-person


The fastest and easiest way to request an absentee ballot is by visiting Then, (1) Select OTHER WAYS TO VOTE. (2) Select ’Request an absentee ballot online’ under ’Vote early (absentee).’  (3) This will bring you to REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT, where you can enter your information below the instructions.

By Mail

Absentee ballots are available 46 days before all elections, and are provided to voters upon request. To request an absentee ballot, complete the Absentee Ballot Request Form and either mail, email, or fax it to the election office. Specific delivery information is on the form. Alternately, voters may visit the election office and complete the form there. 

For the convenience of our residents, we placed a drop box for absentee ballots outside of City Hall, just left of the main door. You can deposit your absentee ballot in the drop box to be counted up until 3 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.

*Note: For your 2020 General Election ballot to be counted it must be returned to the City of Inver Grove Heights by 3 p.m. on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 3).

Voters can request an absentee ballot at the following locations:

  • City of Inver Grove Heights (8150 Barbara Avenue, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077):
    • Monday-Friday: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    • Saturday and Sunday: Closed
  • Dakota County Administration Center (1590 Hwy 55, Hastings, MN 55033), Dakota County’s Northern Service Center 
    (1 Mendota Rd, West St. Paul, MN 55118) or Dakota County Western Service Center (14955 Galaxie Ave, Apple Valley, MN 55124)


Seven days prior to election day, voters may request a ballot in-person and then deposit their ballot directly into the ballot box at the City of Inver Grove Heights election office or a Dakota County Service Center. 

Early voting is offered at the following locations only for the seven days prior to election day:

  • City of Inver Grove Heights: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sunday, Closed 
    • 8150 Barbara Avenue, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077
  • Dakota County Administration Center(1590 Hwy 55, Hastings, MN 55033)

If you are not registered to vote

If your registration is not current, a Voter Registration Application will be included with your absentee ballot materials. The voter registration application must be completed AND must be returned with your completed ballot form.  

Options for uniformed & overseas citizens

Dakota County voters who are overseas, including those in the military, their spouses, or others, may vote by absentee ballot using the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.

Military personnel, their families and citizens living outside the United States (including Canada and Mexico) may have application requests submitted by the voter, voter’s parents, spouse, sibling or child over the age of 18 years. Applications can be submitted in-person at the Dakota County Administration Center, Dakota County Western Service Center and Dakota County Northern Service Center.
