The Inver Grove Heights Fire Department jointly hosts an annual Citizen’s Fire Academy alongside the South Metro Fire Department. This unique eight-week program, open to residents who live and/or work within the cities of West St. Paul, South St. Paul, or Inver Grove Heights, typically takes place in the fall months, usually October and November.

In the Citizen’s Fire Academy, participants will be given a from-the-inside view of the differing professional lives of Inver Grove Heights and South Metro firefighters. Along with an in-depth informational look at each fire department, the Citizens Fire Academy includes participation in varying fire, rescue, and EMS activities such as:
- Hands-only CPR
- Basic First Aid
- Forcible entry
- Automobile extrication and rescue
- Limited controlled live fire training using propane props
- Orientation to Dakota County’s Emergency Dispatching system

The eight-week program will be held Wednesdays, Sept. 15 through Nov. 3 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sign up now through Sept. 6, 2021 (limited spots available) and indicate in your email your interest in the Citizen Fire Academy.
