As part of the City’s Pavement Management Program, the City Council has authorized Element Materials Technology to perform geotechnical exploration on 136 lane miles of City streets. You can view the map here. The exploration includes taking soil boring, pavement core, and ground penetrating radar (GPR) samples to verify the existing pavement, gravel and subgrade soil conditions within the roadway. The information gathered will be evaluated to identify the appropriate street rehabilitation method using best management practices for future street improvement projects.
You can expect to see locators mark-up private utility locations in the street area. Geotechnical crews from Element Materials Technology will be taking the soil borings and pavement cores. Infrasense will be performing the GPR. This work is expected to begin in late July and be completed by the end of November 2019, weather permitting.
Traffic impacts will be minimal sense this is a moving operation which stops for a limited time to take samples. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we collect the data needed to make sound decisions for street improvements. If you have any questions, please contact the Engineering Division at 651-450-2570.
