2025 IGH Pavement Management Initiative - Barbara Avenue & 46th Street Area
Construction Updates
This Week (05/19-05/23):
Crews continued working on utilities along 47th Street East and Barbato Court, and they plan to finish installing the sanitary sewer and watermain there. They also worked on finishing the storm sewer on 49th Street and Barbara Avenue (south of 47th Street). New concrete curbs are scheduled to be poured in this area on May 23 in preparation for paving next week.
Next Week (05/26-05/30):
Paving is tentatively planned for 49th Street and Barbara Avenue (south of 47th Street) by the end of next week. Meanwhile, utility crews will keep working on 47th Street East and Barbato Court to install storm sewer, and new sanitary sewer and water services. This will allow residents to switch from temporary water. Crews will also start work on sanitary sewer on Barbara Avenue north of 47th Street.
General Updates
Access:
The contractor will perform work while maintaining traffic flow. However, temporary road closures may occur during utility work. Access will be restored at the end of each workday. For information regarding private driveway access, please refer to the Curb and Driveway Notice below.
Garbage Service:
As construction activities continue in your area, please be advised that garbage collection services will not be impacted. Residents should continue to place their garbage and recycling bins out on their regular collection days and in their usual locations.
Temporary Water Service
As part of the ongoing construction project, temporary water service will be provided to maintain uninterrupted water supply during water main replacement. If your property will be connected to temporary water service, you will receive advance written notice with specific details.
Please be aware of the following:
- A temporary above-ground water line will be connected to your outside faucet or another suitable location.
- You may notice a slight decrease in water pressure or temperature fluctuations during this time.
- Temporary water service will remain in place until the new water main is fully installed and tested.
- Please do not tamper with or disconnect the temporary line. If you experience any issues with your water service, contact the project representative listed in your notice.
- The contractor may ask you to turn off your water service valve inside you home in order to connect to the temporary water service.
Temporary Mailboxes:
Due to construction in the area, temporary mailboxes will be installed to ensure uninterrupted mail delivery. Advance written notice will be provided to affected homeowners prior to the relocation of mail service. These temporary mailboxes will be located at the designated area identified in the notice provided to you and will remain in use until work is complete and normal access is restored. If you have questions about mail delivery, please contact your local post office or the project representative listed on your notice.
Curb and Driveway Notice:
The contractor will provide written notice to any homeowner whose driveway access will be temporarily impacted. If you receive a notice and need to use your vehicle during the day, you must park in the designated area indicated in the notice. Once the initial work is completed, gravel will be placed in front of affected driveways to provide temporary access until permanent repairs are made. Driveway access will be restricted again when the curb is poured and driveways are repaired. A separate advance notice will be provided before this occurs.
Right-of-Way Obstruction Notice:
Property owners are responsible for any irrigation systems, invisible dog fences, or other unpermitted obstructions located within the public right-of-way (approximately 12&15 feet behind the curb, within the boulevard area). To avoid potential damage or additional costs during construction. Please temporarily relocate your irrigation lines at least 4 feet behind the curb before work begins in your area. After topsoil is placed, you may reinstall their irrigation systems prior to sod installation. Neither the City nor the Contractor is liable for damage to any unpermitted obstructions within the right-of-way. Please turn off any irrigation zones that are near the street until work is completed.
