Swimming is a Valuable Life Skill!
We are happy you have chosen the Aquatic Center at the VMCC to enhance your family‘s water safety knowledge and swimming abilities! We are excited to be able to offer youth programming that encourages play and teaches lifesaving skills. Our swim lesson program is designed for year-round participation. Swimmers are encouraged to continue swimming in order to build upon their current skills while being introduced to new skills. Swimming is an activity that requires repeated practice and ongoing endurance. It is recommended that your swimmer continue to practice their skills year-round. All classes are held in the lap pool at a temperature of 84 degrees during the summer and 81 degrees during the school year.
Affordable and Convenient options for everyone
Lessons are available for every level of swimmer and of all abilities. We offer group, semi-private and private lessons during the day and evening to accommodate busy schedules and participants needs.
Certified Instructors
All swimming lessons are taught by caring and compassionate professionals who focus on student needs. Instructors are nationally certified in American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction. Instructors are required to attend ongoing training to ensure they are up to date with the latest teaching strategies and safety guidelines.
Contact us - we are here to help!
Please contact the Aquatics Coordinator at 651-554-3423 if you are unsure what level to enroll your swimmer in.
We know practice makes perfect, which is why we give swim lesson participants 5-8 complimentary open swim passes (pass number is dependent on the class the child is enrolled in) for students to practice their swimming skills. Everyone who enters the pool area during open swim must pay admission (including supervising adults).
Waitlists
If a class is full, you can add your name to the waitlist. We're sometimes able to add additional classes to accommodate those on the waitlist. We'll contact you if a space opens up. Waitlists do not guarantee class enrollment.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are one on one with an instructor and are the perfect way to build confidence and improve swimming skills. View available private lessons and register online. Email privatelessons@ighmn.gov or call 651-554-3423 for more details.

We offer programs and classes year-round to strengthen your skill in the water and the opportunity to get certified in lifesaving water skills.
