Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Federal and State laws such as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Minnesota Human Rights Act, prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, low-income status, creed, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, and status with regard to public assistance. The City cannot refuse to provide nor limit access to services for certain individuals, or refuse to reasonably accommodate an individual with a disability because of their protected class. 

The City of Inver Grove Heights is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination on the basis of protected class under any and all programs, services, or activities administered by the City, its Council, employees, subrecipients and contractors. Additionally, the City is committed to ensuring that its programs incorporate access for people with limited English proficiency. Any person who believes that they, individually, or as a member of any specific class of persons, have been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, low-income status, creed, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or status with regard to public assistance may file a discrimination complaint with the City within 180 days.

Complaints related to disability discrimination may be made via the City’s ADA Grievance Form. Other discrimination complaints can be submitted directly to the appropriate department contact as listed in the appendices. The City’s Department Heads are responsible for reviewing programs, services and processes annually, ensuring its contractors are in compliance with these policies, and following up on all complaints in a timely manner as indicated in the City’s Customer Service Policy.
